Save the date for the 12th annual Chattahoochee River Race & Festival this Saturday, June 14th! Located at Garrard Landing Park and Riverside Park in Roswell, the race begins at 9:00 a.m. with the festival following from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Established to encourage a sense of community around the river, proceeds will support protection and preservation of the Chattahoochee River through Chattahoochee Riverkeeper.
Registration is still available for the race through June 11th, so be sure to register online this week before spots fill up! The race will be partitioned into categories for kayaks, canoes, and stand-up paddleboards among an eight-mile-long course running through Class I-II rapids. Racers are encouraged to show up in costume and decorate their racing vessels, as awards including Best Costume and Best Boat Decoration will be presented at the end of the race. If teamwork is more your speed, team paddlers will be greeted at the end of the race by the SweetWater beer Barge before reaching the shore.
After the race, join your community at the free Festival at Riverside Park where you and your family can enjoy live music, food, and children’s activities. Live bands will play a variety of music throughout the festival inspired by blues, classic rock, Caribbean, and Southern styles. Local artists and farmers’ market vendors will have displays and items available as you make your way through dozens of exhibits. Children’s entertainment will feature face painting, balloon art, fun dog demonstrations, and more!
