The Decatur Garden Tour is on Saturday, April 27 and Sunday, April 28, 2013. The tour takes place at several gardens throughout the Decatur area. Saturday’s hours are from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. On Sunday the event is from 12:00 noon to 5:00 pm.
The Decatur Garden Tour is celebrating it’s 25th year, and guests will be able to visit 15 private gardens. Some of the featured gardens will show off their beautiful flowers and landscaping, and others will highlight their organic vegetable gardens. There is also a world-famous rose garden on the tour that is expected to be in beautiful and fragrant bloom. The Oakhurst and Sugar Creek Gardens will also have presentations where guests will get to learn about vegetable growing and other aspects of edible gardening.
Also happening on the same weekend, is the Wylde Center Plant Sale Festival. The plant sale is held nearby at the Oakhurst Garden. Various herbs, vegetable plants, fruit trees, and shrubs will be for sale, and the plant sale goes along with the garden tour’s theme of “Gardens of Eating.”
Advanced tickets are $20 and they can be purchased online, or at a few local retailers. Tickets purchased on the day-of will be $25 per person, and children under the age of 12 are free.
Proceeds from the tour benefit the Wylde Center which serves as a community garden, nature center, neighborhood meeting space, and wildlife habitat.
