The new show The Secret Agent is scheduled to take place from Friday, March 15 through Sunday, March 17, 2013. The Capitol City Opera will be performing this opera at the Conant Performing Arts Center at Oglethorpe University located at 4484 Peachtree Road in Brookhaven. The performances on Friday and Saturday begin at 8:00 pm, and Sunday’s show is at 3:00 pm.
The Secret Agent is an opera that was developed and created based on the novel of the same name written in 1907 by Joseph Conrad. Atlanta composer, Curtis Bryant, wrote the musical score and helped turn the original story into a modern drama. The storyline brings about fears of terrorism and political dissent, and audiences will enjoy many tension-building twists in the tale leading up to the opera’s dramatic final scene. The opera is sung in English, and guests will be enthralled with the tale of intrigue, anarchy, espionage, betrayal, murder, and suicide.
Tickets to The Secret Agent opera are $30 for general admission. Students, members of the military, and seniors can receive a discounted price with proper identification.
The Capital City Opera will also be holding their popular Dinner and a Diva event on Tuesday, March 19, 2013. The theme for March’s event is “Brush up on your Shakespeare” and it takes place at Petite Auberge located at 2935 North Druid Hills Rd in Toco Hills. The event is a great way to learn about opera while enjoying a three-course meal. There will be hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar beginning at 6:30 pm, and the show starts at 7:00 pm. Dinner will be served at various points throughout the show, and tickets include wine during the performance and with dinner. Reservations are required and tickets are $55 per person.
