The Decatur Old House Fair is on Saturday, February 2, 2013. The event takes place at the Decatur Courtyard by Marriott Hotel and Conference Center located at 130 Clairemont Ave. The hours of the fair are from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.
The Decatur Old House Fair was created to give homeowners a place to learn about new ideas and to get practical advice on how to improve their home. Much of the information is targeted at improving older homes; however, the products and materials can be used in maintaining newer homes, as well. This fair provides guests the chance to discover new and innovative products and techniques for rehabilitating, furnishing, and maintaining a home. Some of the highlighted areas of discussion are: how to restore original windows, improving your older home’s energy efficiency, researching old-house history, how to earn tax incentives for certified rehabilitation, and more. Attendees will also be shown how to develop a maintenance plan through various seminars and hands-on demonstrations. The demonstrations include a wide range of topics including: waterproofing basements and crawl spaces, wood floor restoration, painting, insulation, and how to revive old chimneys and fireplaces.
Visitors at the fair will also get to enjoy a large exhibit area of retailers, suppliers, and other professionals. The booths will feature items for home improvement, historic preservation, renovation, interior furnishings, and construction. Companies will also be able to answer any questions related to restoring, renovating, or remodeling your home.
Tickets to the event are $10 and can be purchased in advance online. There will be a break mid-way through the day for guests to sample food from the various food trucks outside the venue, or to grab a bite to eat in downtown Decatur.
