It has been 5 years since an area of Buckhead was torn down to make way for a large, upscale mixed use development by Ben Carter Properties called “Streets of Buckhead”. After demolition, construction on the new pedestrian friendly area quickly began but then it quickly stopped. Since then, the site has been an ugly eye sore to the residents living in Buckhead and the drivers cruising by the Peachtree Road section between East Paces Ferry Road and Pharr Road. With a new owner in May 2011, came a new vision for the area. Instead of a Rodeo Drive inspired, high end center of living, shopping and dining options, Oliver McMillan Inc plans to make an “urban village”. The plans now include apartments, stores, and street level cafes with a local flare, all to promote walkability in the area. What was once called “Streets of Buckhead” is now simply “Buckhead Atlanta”. Whatever the name, residents and passerbys are just happy to see construction has started again. The completion date is set for fall of 2013.
