The annual Hunger Walk/Run is on Sunday, March 10, 2013. The event takes place at Turner Field’s Green Lot, located at 755 Hank Aaron Drive in downtown Atlanta. Onsite registration begins at 12:00 noon, and the race starts at 2:00 pm.
Over 15,000 runners and walkers participated in last year’s event, helping to raise money to fight hunger in Georgia and local communities. The 5k walk and race is a family-friendly event with a festival atmosphere and lots of entertainment. There will be food vendors, games, educational activities, live entertainment, and much more at the event.
The 5K route takes participants through historic downtown Atlanta and around the State Capitol. Registration for both runners and walkers is $25 per person, and participants can preregister online in advance. In addition to the registration fee, any walker or runner who raises an extra $25 will receive a Hunger Walk/Run t-shirt. Fundraising is not a requirement to participate in the race, but all donations raised from the event help feed the hungry in the Atlanta community.
Guests who are not participating in the race, but who wish to support the fight against hunger, can also attend the free festival and enjoy the entertainment. The festival goes until 4:00 pm and there will be a kids-zone, sponsor tents, delicious food from local vendors and food trucks, live music, and lots of other entertainment. Of course, don’t forget to cheer on the runners and walkers!
Event parking is free and race participants are encouraged to park in Turner Field’s Blue Lot.
Donations and proceeds from the event go to the Atlanta Community Food Bank and their co-sponsors. The donations help to support food pantries, shelters, community kitchens, senior centers and child care centers operated or supported by the various hunger relief organizations.
