The annual Oakhurst Arts and Music Festival is on Saturday, October 12, 2013. The festival is held at Harmony Park located near the corner of East Lake Drive and Oakview Road in Oakhurst Village. Event hours are from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm.
The 16th annual event will feature tons of fun, including an artists market, a 5k walk and run, kids activities, a parade, live music and entertainment, food and beverages, and more. Over 50 local artists will be showcasing and selling their handmade arts and crafts at the artist’s market this year. There will be various pieces of artwork and unique gift items that were created with a wide range of artistic mediums. Just across from the artist’s market, there will be a community area where local Oakhurst and Decatur non-profit organizations can set up tables to connect with members of the community. It’s the perfect time for volunteers to learn more about different groups and hear about other ways that they can give back to the area.
At 8:00 am on Saturday morning, the Oakhurst 5k Arts walk/run will kick-off. The race starts and ends at One Step at a Time running store which is located at 650 E. Lake Drive in Decatur. Runners will begin the race just in front of the walkers, and strollers and dogs on a leash are also welcome. Registration is $30 per person, and winners in various age brackets will be awarded trophies at the end of the race. All participants will also receive an Oakhurst-themed race t-shirt. Proceeds from the race benefit the Decatur Rotary Foundation.
At 3:00 pm, individuals, families, groups, and organizations can participate in the good ‘ol fashioned parade. All community members are invited to join in the fun. The only rule is that no motorized vehicles are allowed, but guests are encouraged to get creative and dress up in costumes or decorate their bikes and wagons. The parade will follow a short route that is approximately one-third of a mile and runs directly through the heart of the festival.
From 10:00 am to 4:00 pm the children’s area will be providing fun and interactive activities for the kids. The Kids Zone is sponsored by Circus Camp and they will be doing aerial rig demonstrations, a performance by Mister Greggy the clown, hosting a juggling clinic, and more! There will also be other fun attractions such as large inflatable obstacle courses, and touch-a-truck. The Children’s Stage will also have live performances including dance numbers, school choir, and martial arts demonstrations.
Throughout the rest of the festival, there will be other live musical performances and entertainment on the main stage. Various musical acts including a unique percussion performance will entertain the crowds while they shop and enjoy the other festival activities. Food and beverages will be sold at the local Oakhurst restaurants, and other popular festival treats will also be available.
