Atlanta Public School Redistricting Proposals released

Atlanta Public School redistricting proposals were released on January 27, 2012. Included are two maps with proposed changes labeled “Plan A” and “Plan B”. Changes are proposed for Sarah Smith Elementary, Morris Brandon Elementary, Warren T Jackson Elementary, Morningside Elementary, Mary Lin Elementary, Springdale Park along with other Atlanta Public School schools.

Atlanta private school application deadlines are right around the corner. Attending an open house is an excellent opportunity to tour the school, meet faculty and staff, ask questions and examine the curriculum. Some public schools also offer open houses for prospective students. Below is a list of upcoming open houses by dates (click on the school’s name for more information and application deadlines). Oak Grove, Lakeside & Druid Hills Redistricting Plan Update

A meeting was held on February 7, 2011 to update DeKalb County residents on a proposed school redistricting plan for the 2011-2012 school year. One of the plan’s goal is to alleviate overcrowding at Fernbank Elementary, Oak Grove Elementary, Henderson Mill Elementary and Sagamore Hills, correct Sagamore Hills Elementary Split–Feeder and the under-utilization of Briar Vista Elementary. The proposal for 2011-12 include changing attendance line changes for Fernbank and Sagamore Hills Elementary Schools to increase the utilization of Briar Vista. The new proposal will leave DeKalb County Magnet programs in place. See map below.

Brookhaven and DeKalb County Revised Redistricting Plan

A meeting was held on February 7, 2011 to update DeKalb County residents on a proposed school redistricting plan for the 2011-2012 school year.  The links below include a PowerPoint Presentation outlining the revised plan and a link to the revised map. The new proposal will leave DeKalb County Magnet programs in place and make no changes in the school districts in Brookhaven.

Dunwoody and DeKalb County School Redistricting Update

A meeting was held on February 7, 2011 to update DeKalb County residents on a proposed school redistricting plan for the 2011-2012 school year. The proposed changes will affect some students in Dunwoody schools including Vanderlyn Elementary School, Austin Elementary School, Dunwoody Elementary School, Kingsley Elementary School and Chesnut Elementary School. The new proposal will leave DeKalb County Magnet programs in place and convert Dunwoody Elementary to a K-5 school.

DeKalb County School Redistricting Proposal for Oak Grove, Lakeside & Druid Hills

Proposed plans which include attendance maps for the DeKalb County School System 2011-2012 redistricting and consolidation proposal have just been released. There are two proposals currently on the table which could potentially affect parts of Decatur, Druid Hills and Oak Grove Elementary/Lakeside High School area. A “Centralized Model” and “Decentralized Model” are proposed. The Centralized Model include plans to change attendance zones in parts of Oak Grove Elementary School, Sagamore Hills Elementary School, Briar Vista Elementary School and Fernbank Elementary as well as other schools in DeKalb County. The Centralized Model also includes changes to the Lakeside High School attendance area. (see map 2 below) One of the goals of the plan is to target school size to 900 students for elementary schools, 1200 students for middle schools and 1600 students for high schools.

There are two proposals currently on the table for Brookhaven and 30319. A “Centralized Model” and “Decentralized Model” are proposed. The Centralized Model include plans to change attendance zones in Montgomery Elementary School, Ashford Park Elementary School, Huntley Hills Elementary School and Kittredge Magnet Elementary School. The Centralized Model also includes changing a small area from Chamblee High School to Cross Keys High School and Chamblee Middle School to Sequoyah. (see map 2 below) One of the goals of the plan is to target school size to 900 students for elementary schools, 1200 students for middle schools and 1600 students for high schools.
