Now that Christmas is over and you start to take the decorations down, you may think to yourself, “What am I going to do with this tree?” Instead of placing the tree on the curb (which will eventually end up in a landfill), bring it to one of the several “Bring One for the Chipper” tree recycling events. This annual Georgia Christmas tree recycling program has recycled almost
5 million trees. The mulch created from the recycled trees has been used for playgrounds, local government beautification projects, and individual yards.
The city of Alpharetta is welcoming the holiday season as the Alpharetta Downtown Historic District lights up with the Annual Christmas Tree Lighting!

Did you buy a home in the Atlanta area in 2013?
If you purchased your home last year and have not already done so, remember to file for a Homestead Exemption. This can save you thousands of dollars in property taxes!
While some states provide this exemption automatically, in Georgia a homestead exemption must be applied for. Depending on the county, this can be done online, by fax, by mail or in person. You only have to apply for the exemption once. The exemption remains as long as you reside in the home as your primary residence.
Click here for Homestead Exemption application deadline dates listed by county along with a link for a Homestead Exemption application. It is important to file your application on time as applications received after the deadline will be processed the following year.
