Now that Christmas is over and you start to take the decorations down, you may think to yourself, “What am I going to do with this tree?” Instead of placing the tree on the curb (which will eventually end up in a landfill), bring it to one of the several “Bring One for the Chipper” tree recycling events. This annual Georgia Christmas tree recycling program has recycled almost
5 million trees. The mulch created from the recycled trees has been used for playgrounds, local government beautification projects, and individual yards.
The annual Oakhurst Arts and Music Festival is on Saturday, October 12, 2013. The festival is held at Harmony Park located near the corner of East Lake Drive and Oakview Road in Oakhurst Village. Event hours are from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm.
The 16th annual event will feature tons of fun, including an artists market, a 5k walk and run, kids activities, a parade, live music and entertainment, food and beverages, and more. The Decatur Garden Tour is on Saturday, April 27 and Sunday, April 28, 2013. The tour takes place at several gardens throughout the Decatur area. Saturday’s hours are from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. On Sunday the event is from 12:00 noon to 5:00 pm.

A new, permanent exhibition has opened at Fernbank Museum of Natural History. Children will be able to learn while having fun in the Fernbank NatureQuest. The 7,000 square-foot, $8 million expansion allows children to interact with nature. Kids will have a blast exploring the multi-level clubhouse, learning about fish in the virtual river, seeing what animals made their way through the exhibit and so much more.
