The 11th annual Taste of Atlanta

The Taste of Atlanta is back again and it will be held over the weekend of October 5, 6, and 7, 2012.  This premier food and beverage festival takes place at Tech Square in Midtown, Atlanta.  The kick-off event on Friday, October 5 is from 6:30 pm to 10:30 pm.  Saturday and Sunday hours are from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm with the VIP Tasting Tents opening at 12:30 pm both days.

The Taste of Atlanta is one of the city’s finest food, beer, wine, and cocktail festivals around.  This year, there will be over 80 of Atlanta’s top restaurants serving up their specialties.  Attendees will get to meet the chefs and sample their delicious food.  Every type of cuisine will be represented with everything from traditional American meals to exceptional international eats.  At the VIP Tasting Tents, guests aged 21 and up will be able to sample more than 40 of the world’s best beers and wines.

On the Home Plate Main Stage, high schoolers, college students, and professional chefs will compete in various cooking challenges.  Watch as they go head-to-head with varying tasks such as cooking with surprise ingredients, making inexpensive meals, and cooking recipes based on audience suggestions!  There will also be other cooking demonstrations and lectures at other booths and at the Grill Dome.

For the kids, there is a Family Food Zone where three young chefs-in-training will be able to showcase their cooking skills by making a dish with regional ingredients.  Some of the Taste of Atlanta festival chefs will also square-off in a competition that will be judged by several young judges aged 9-12.

Visit Inside the Food Studio at the festival and learn all about craft beers, wine, spices, international breakfasts, and how to grow your own vegetable garden in your backyard.  At the Kitchen Workshop, you can learn how to make sushi, paella, jams, jellies, and all-American food dishes.

There will be a Barcraft Competition during the festival where Atlanta’s top bartenders will compete for the title of Taste of Atlanta’s Best Bartender.  The qualifying rounds have already taken place, but the semi-finals and the final rounds will take place on Saturday and Sunday during the Taste of Atlanta.

For those looking to do a little shopping at the festival, there will be a bookstore, sponsored by Barnes and Noble, that will have tons of popular cookbooks and other food-related books available for purchase.  Other food and cooking products will be sold at the Georgia Specialty Foods Market during the festival, as well.  A Silent Auction will also feature cooking items and entertainment and travel packages.

With so many fun activities at the Taste of Atlanta, you will definitely need a program or map to help you get around.  You can even download their iPhone app, TasteATL, to help you locate your favorite restaurant’s booth or the location of the next seminar that you want to attend.
