The Holiday Spirit event at the Atlanta History Center takes place on Saturday, December 15, 2012. Hours for the event are from 10:30 am to 4:30 pm.
The Atlanta History Center hosts its annual holiday program that is filled with family activities that celebrate the holiday season. Some of the activities include: holiday crafts, live music, and of course, a visit from St. Nick. The Smith Family Farm, the Swan House, and other parts of the museum will be beautifully decorated for the holidays.
One of the other highlights is a visit from several Ghosts of Christmas Past. Various characters will be dressed up in old-fashioned clothing, telling stories of how people used to celebrate Christmas many years ago. Guests will learn about various holiday traditions and hear other Christmas tales. The Smith Family Farm will also have some of their regular popular attractions open, such as: candle-dipping, blacksmithing, and open-hearth cooking demonstrations.
Also taking place at the Atlanta History Center during the holiday season is the museum’s monthly Magic Mondays – but with a holiday twist. Young toddlers and children are invited to attend the Home for the Holidays event on Monday, December 10. From 10:00 am to 1:00 pm kids aged 1 to 5 will get to make ornaments, sing holiday songs, and decorate a Christmas tree. They can also listen to stories of how the Inman children celebrated the holiday season, and other Christmas tales.
