The 24th annual Peach Drop is on Monday, December 31, 2012. The event takes places at Underground Atlanta located at 50 Central Avenue SW in downtown Atlanta. Activities begin at 11:00 am and end shortly after midnight.
The Peach Drop is the largest New Year’s Eve celebration in the southeast, and it has become a world-renowned event. This Atlanta tradition provides plenty of family-friendly activities to ring in the New Year. Starting at 11:00 am, the Budding Peach Stage will have tons of musical acts that children will love. The singers, dancers, mimes, and other artists will be performing all day with the last children’s performance beginning at 5:30 pm. Throughout the day, there will also be face painting, carnival rides, balloon artists, food, and other New Year’s Eve vendors.
Kenny’s Alley will have various musical acts performing throughout the day, as well. Guests will also be able to watch the Chick-fil-A Bowl on the big screen at Kenny’s Alley. The Peach Drop’s Main Stage will have live entertainment beginning at 6:00 pm and a Beatles Tribute Band will close out the evening with a performance during the Peach Drop.
At midnight, the 800-pound peach will descend during the countdown to 2013. The freshly painted and refurbished peach takes approximately 58 seconds to make its descent while visitors watch in awe. Guests will be showered in confetti as the clock strikes twelve, and a dazzling fireworks show also takes place at midnight to kick-off the New Year!
Peach Drop patrons are advised to take MARTA, as parking is limited. The Five Points and Peachtree Center stations are closest to the event and trains run until 2:00 am. The Peach Drop is free and is open to attendees of all ages.
