Festival History

Based on previous years, the festival is typically projected to bring in over 75,000 attendees through the holiday weekend with a variety of hands-on entertainment! The city of Decatur has been especially welcoming of family-friendly festivals and is known as one of the best settings for attendees to enjoy the vibrant cultural and history of Atlanta.

The mission of the Decatur Book Festival is to bring together writers, publishers, booksellers, and book-lovers alike to celebrate the written and spoken word. No genres are prohibited or excluded from the festival, and festival-goers are encouraged to find their next favorite book! Writers, journals, publishers, writers’ groups, artists, and many other groups and individuals celebrate the written word, encouraging readers to pick up a new favorite book from an array of genres, including: romance, history, health and wellness, science, religion, poetry, and more.
