Dixie Taylor Purvis is known for her large abstracts – oil on panel. The abstracts are received as raw and open, while simultaneously dense and complex. Her works explode and surprise, moving out from the middle and in from the sides.
Much like our personal history and human experience, events overlap and emerge; while oftentimes, the marks are spontaneous or otherwise deliberate to suggest the complexity of human experience. Purvis paints from her core, frequently using personal inspiration from a song, dream, or personal event. Using organic shapes and imagery, she prefers to allow viewers to draw from their own experience and emotion as they view her works.
Dixie is represented by several galleries with works across several collections: Federal Reserve Bank, Atlanta Gas Light, Holder Construction, King and Spalding, Piedmont Hospital, Northwestern Mutual, Georgia Tech, Ritz Carlton, Alston and Bird. With a number of solo shows in her repertoire, Dixie’s work has also been highlighted in a number of publications and maintains a studio in Atlanta.
