HISTORY OF THE RACE
At 4 months of age, Peter Hopkins was diagnosed with Peroxisomal Disorder, and thus began his journey with the horrible disease. 2009 was the first year of Pound the Pavement for Peter, and it was received with an overwhelming response from the community. In 2010, Peter passed away just shy of his 4th birthday. Due to Peter’s passing in late 2010, the race went on hiatus for the year and returned in 2012 stronger than ever.
This event has become a highly anticipated activity for families and children around the Atlanta area, and has raised awareness both for Peroxisomal Disorders as well as children with other rare diseases and disabilities. Each year, families affected by rare developmental disorders have been inspired by the hope and energy of the community who comes out to support this race.
