Located in North Fulton County, part of Sandy Springs is located inside the perimeter, just north of Buckhead and west of GA400 and part is located outside the perimeter. The City of Sandy Springs is Georgia’s sixth largest city with a population of 98,000 residents. Proudly founded on December 1, 2005, it covers 356 miles of streets and roadways, the city encompasses national forests, the Chattahoochee River, national park sites, residential development, vibrant shopping and restaurants.
It has a new civic and cultural center contains City Offices, a Performing Arts Center, a studio theater, meeting space, retail and residential spaces, a city green and underground community parking.

The Sandy Springs business district focuses along Roswell Road and offers an array of services and shops. A renaissance is taking place, converting the central business district into a mixed-use, pedestrian friendly, living community with new residential, fashionable retail and trendy restaurants.
The Prado shopping center offers a little of something for everyone. Shop at Target, Peter Glenn Ski & Sports, Staples or dine at Kobe Steaks Japanese Restaurant, Panda Express, Taco Mac, or 5 Seasons Brewing. When you are done shopping or eating, pick up groceries at the convenient Publix Super Market.
One of the most popular shopping destinations in shopping is CityWalk Shopping Center. With a total of 32 different stores, 21 of which are relatively new, CityWalk Shopping Center offers gourmet foods, coffees from around the world, distinctive wines, fashionable clothing boutiques, and many intriguing specialty shops for people who enjoy shopping for fun.
Perimeter Mall offers the best in shopping, entertainment and dining! Whether you enjoy a relaxing dinner at one of the mall’s six signature restaurants or spend the day shopping at your favorite stores including Dillard’s, Macy’s, Nordstrom and 200 specialty shops and services, Perimeter Mall offers a friendly, fashionable experience in a comfortable, relaxing atmosphere. Although Perimeter Mall is located in Dunwoody, it borders Sandy Springs and is a top shopping location for Sandy Springs residents.

Most of us are trying to live cleaner and greener these days and take better care of our planet. Here are a few ways to live greener in Sandy Springs:
- Eat fresh and support local farmers. Visit the Sandy Springs Farmers Market. The Sandy Springs Farmers Market is held in the parking lot at 235 Sandy Springs Circle NW every Saturday 8:00 a.m.- noon beginning in April and continuing through December.
- Recycle. The Dick Schmalz Recycling Center is located at 460 Morgan Falls Road. Items accepted include paper, plastics, metals, aluminum, and glass. Click here for specific guidelines.
- Drive less, take MARTA. There are a few MARTA rail stations in the Sandy Springs area (Dunwoody, Sandy North Springs and Sandy Springs). The Sandy Springs area rail stations offer free same day parking and paid extended stay parking. Along with rail routes, there are bus routes that will take you to numerous locations throughout Atlanta and Atlanta suburbs.
- Sandy Springs Festival – A celebration of community and tradition, the Festival includes something for people of all ages, races, customs and interests. The annual extravaganza involves more than 600 artists, crafters, entertainers and vendors from all over Georgia and the southeast with media coverage throughout the region.
- Taste of Sandy Springs – This one-day outdoor annual food festival showcases the community’s top restaurants and favorite eateries as well as celebrate the culinary arts.
- Sandy Springs Movies by Moonlight – In the fall, Movies are shown on a 45-foot screen on the terraced lawn at Sandy Springs United Methodist Church. Admission is FREE. Movie goers are encouraged to arrive early and picnic with family and friends. Pizza, popcorn, snacks and drinks will be for sale onsite.

Parks and Recreation
- Abernathy Linear Park – Sandy Springs will spend $750,000 this year to develop this 25 acre site, on the north side of Abernathy Road, between Roswell and River Valley roads. The $15 million project will be built in phases over the next several years as funds become available.
- Morgan Falls Overlook Park – Sandy Springs newest park! Opened in July 2010, the 27 acre park features playground equipment shaped like a spider web, swings with stunning views of the Chattahoochee River and a stacked stone chimney which pre-dates the Civil War. The riverside park also includes a boat dock, playground, walking trails, restrooms, a large picnic pavilion and handicap accessible swings.
- Sandy Springs Historic Site and Park – A four-acre City park located in the heart of Sandy Springs. Each year, thousands of residents and visitors come to Heritage Green to enjoy free concerts, programs and events. A half mile north of I-285 and two blocks west of Roswell Road, Heritage Green is the best kept secret in town.
- Sandy Springs Tennis Center – The Sandy Springs Tennis Center is a lighted 24 court tennis facility. Named by Tennis Magazine as “one of the finest public facilities in the country”, this center serves as the hub for tennis activity in Atlanta and Fulton County. It is located at 500 Abernathy Road in Sandy Springs.
- John Ripley Forbes Big Trees Forest Preserve – A beautiful and unique 30-acre Fulton County Tree, Plant and Wildlife Sanctuary. It is designed and managed as a forest education center offering passive recreation walks along 1 1/2 miles of wood mulched walking trails. The Forest is open sunrise to sunset, seven days each week. There is ample free parking. Dogs on leashes are welcomed in the Forest. The Forest is located next to the North Fulton County Government Annex building at 7741 Roswell Road.
- Abernathy Arts Center – A neighborhood arts center dedicated to providing quality arts instruction to the community in a warm and friendly environment. A facility of the Fulton County Arts Council, we offer a broad range of day and evening classes and workshops for both adults and children. It is located at 254 Johnson Ferry Road NW.
- Sandy Springs Parks and Facilities – Recreation and Parks is responsible for maintaining parks and providing recreation programming in Sandy Springs. There are a total of thirteen parks and green space areas within Sandy Springs, three of which provide recreational facilities.
- MARTA – Atlanta’s public transportation system, including subways and buses, serving the city of Atlanta and Fulton and DeKalb counties. MARTA stands for Metro Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority. Sandy Springs rail station offers short and long term parking.
