Where/who do you draw inspiration from?
I am inspired by my clients and the way they want to use their spaces to meet the needs of their family. Imagining how a family will live and entertain loved ones in their home and helping to enhance those experiences is the inspiration behind all of our work!
Describe your design style and philosophy.
I love to infuse our designs and client’s homes with collected and thoughtful pieces. We hope to convey the feeling of comfort and ease in even the most elevated spaces! I believe good design is an investment in not only the aesthetics, but also the practicality and function of a space. I think there has been a growing appreciation during the pandemic of what home means and the role it plays in our lives. Home is truly the backdrop to family life. I love that being in a space that brings joy and contentment is no longer seen as frivolous but a priority!
What do you find most rewarding about your work?
Home is the place where our traditions happen and core memories are made. To be entrusted with these spaces and to bring to life their potential for clients is a privilege.
Meet Melanie Millner | The Design Atelier
We sat down with Melanie Millner, owner of The Design Atelier, to learn more about her company and creative process.
What inspired you to open The Design Atelier?
I moved to Atlanta after graduating from The University of Texas with a design degree and was thirsty to learn everything there was to know about architecture and design. Instead of spending free time meeting new friends, I worked two jobs for two different architecture firms and spent weekends drawing plans for residential renovations, putting in 90 hour work weeks. I gained enough clients freelancing on the weekends to start my own business, so I drafted up a business plan and started The Design Atelier at the ripe old age of 25.

Meet Thomas Puckett | Thomas Puckett Designs
New York designer Thomas Puckett grew up in Columbus, GA and has deep roots in the South. Thomas has received acclaim for his residential, landscape and commercial design as well as multiple Houzz awards and consistent 5-star ratings from his diverse clients.
What inspired you to open Thomas Puckett Designs?
Years ago, good friends purchased the Hamptons home of a Real Housewives of New York – Kelly Bensimon. Despite the fancy address, it needed a complete rehaul. When they asked for my help, I thought they wanted me to choose a paint color or a sofa. After some confusing conversations they said, “Thomas, you don’t get it, we want you to design the entire house.” A lightbulb went off in my head and I realized that I could have a legit interior and landscape design business. I’d always helped my mother who has a design business of her own, designed my own interiors and gardens and had been helping friends with theirs. So even though it was so obvious, I never thought of it until then. That’s what friends are for, and I’ll forever be grateful to them. My partner Chip Whitman is the COO who deals with the endless challenges of invoicing, billing, shipping, receiving and all the operational hurdles that clients never see. Without him, this business would never run successfully. Clients appreciate Chip’s skills as much as my designs. Read More
